Click below to view an artifact from one of the most engaging math lessons I taught all year. My first graders needed to know how to graph for the end of quarter math assessment. I introduced and practiced graphing with my students as much as possible. The grand finale lesson was interviewing our friends on "What is your favorite color?" Each student was required to make a prediction, record their data, organize it, and graph it all on their own. I was very impressed with my students as they demonstrated their speaking and listening skills while interviewing their classmates. Not one student came up to me telling me they were done or wondering what was next. Everyone was smiling, talking, and actively working. I didn't know graphing could be so engaging.
This artifact falls under "3c Engaging Students In Learning" because my students were highly motivated and challenged as they were actively working. The main centerpiece of my clear and structured lesson was the graphing activity. Students were able to exercise their choice as they engaged in discussion and problem solving.
